Choose this one if you want the whole Umrah, with flights and both holy cities covered, at the lowest price of our three 7-night tiers. The trade-off is mostly in Makkah. Voco Makkah, an IHG hotel, is 5-7 minutes by shuttle, or about 15 minutes' walk, from the Haram, so your four nights there are planned around the bus or a longer walk. That suits travellers who are steady on their feet and relaxed about timing. Friends sharing a quad room, or a couple who plan to spend long stretches inside the Haram anyway, may hardly notice the distance. Madinah is easier. Your three nights there are at Shaza Regency Plaza, about 3 minutes' walk from Masjid an-Nabawi, so you can walk to every prayer. If anyone in your party is elderly or walks slowly, read the comparison further down before you book.
Planning prayers around the Voco shuttle
The confirmed distance from Voco Makkah is 5-7 minutes by shuttle, or about 15 minutes' walk. In practice you decide, prayer by prayer, whether to head back or stay put. Between Maghrib and Isha, for example, staying inside the Haram is usually simpler than a round trip. IHG's hotel page says the complimentary shuttle runs 24 hours a day. Its transport page adds that the bus goes by way of Kudai station and that service is limited during the Hajj season. Ask the team how the bus is running for your dates before you plan your days around it. For the prayers you do spend at the hotel, IHG lists separate prayer facilities for men and women on the first floor, with an ablution area.
The two hotels, beyond the distance
Voco Makkah stands on Ibrahim Al Khalil Street in the Al Mesfalah district. IHG lists four restaurants on site and a shopping mall you can walk into straight from the lobby. The mall has a section for ihram clothing, handy if you'd like a spare set. Check-in is listed at 3 PM and check-out at 12 PM. Shaza Regency Plaza, your Madinah hotel, is on King Faisal Road in Bada'ah. Maysan Group, which lists it among its Madinah hotels, says the private bathrooms have bathtubs and the main restaurant serves international buffets. There's also Grazie for Italian food, and the Harmony Café for light snacks and drinks. Maysan mentions views of Mount Uhud as well.
Should you move up a tier?

Premium swaps the shuttle for Rotana Jabal Omar, under 2 minutes' walk from the Haram. Luxury goes further, with Swissotel Makkah, Clock Tower, which faces the Haram. If you expect to go back to your room between most prayers, or you're travelling with a parent who tires quickly, look hard at a hotel you can walk from. If you mean to spend most of each day in the Haram and only go back to sleep, Affordable gives you the same Umrah for less.
