3 nights

If the trip you have in mind is Umrah followed by the pyramids, this is it. Six nights of worship come first, split evenly between Makkah and Madinah, and Egypt follows with three nights in Giza. The Madinah hotel is under 1 minute's walk from Masjid an-Nabawi, which makes three nights there feel fuller than the number suggests: getting to Fajr at the mosque is a short step from the hotel door. Unlike our Istanbul and Dubai add-ons, the Egypt leg has no tours built in. That suits independent travellers who'd rather set their own pace on the Giza Plateau and pick their own excursions. It's also the add-on with the most paperwork for a US passport holder, because it's the one leg where you should sort out a visa before you fly. Leave yourself time for that. The Umrah half has one night less in Makkah than our 7-night tiers.

Getting an Egyptian visa

Egypt's e-Visa portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, is run by the Ministry of Interior, and its FAQ lists the United States among the nationalities that can apply online for a tourist e-Visa. The portal says to create your application at least 7 days before departure. The FAQ asks for a passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date, and a printout of the e-Visa at entry. The Embassy of Egypt in Washington advises getting the visa in advance. It treats a visa at the airport as an emergency option, tells anyone relying on it to check with the airline that they can board without a visa, and says Egyptian airports moved from visa-on-arrival stickers to an electronic QR code on September 1, 2026. Both sites are worth a fresh look before you go.

Three open days in Giza

The package books you into The Muse Pyramids Inn in Giza and leaves the days to you, since no tours are listed for this leg. The obvious place to start is the Giza Plateau. Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities describes its three pyramids as the resting places of 4th Dynasty kings: Khufu, then his son Khafre and his grandson Menkaure. Khufu's is the Great Pyramid, the oldest and largest of the three, and the ministry's page on the plateau mentions the Great Sphinx alongside them. Without a set itinerary you decide when to go and how long to stay, which matters if you're travelling with someone who tires easily. If you'd prefer a guide on the plateau, mention it when you enquire.

Egypt's clock moves, Makkah's doesn't

Saudi Arabia keeps UTC+3 all year. Egypt runs on UTC+2 and, since 2023, has moved its clocks forward an hour for summer, from the last Friday in April until the end of the last Thursday in October. So on a summer trip, Cairo and Makkah show the same time. For the rest of the year, Cairo is an hour behind. Either way it's a small shift next to the jump of 7-11 hours from the lower 48 states into Saudi Arabia at the start. If your dates fall close to either switch, check whether Egypt is on summer time before you read a flight or tour time. What does change is the prayer timetable, so use one for Cairo and Giza instead of carrying Makkah's times over.

Frequently asked questions

The inclusions list the electronic Umrah visa, which is for Saudi Arabia. An Egyptian visa isn't listed, so ask the team whether they'll arrange it for your booking. If you apply yourself, use Egypt's portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, and start at least 7 days before departure, as the portal asks. The Egyptian Embassy in Washington calls that the only official link, so check the web address before you pay anything.

No. The Istanbul and Dubai trips each come with tours, but this one lists none for the Egypt leg, only the three hotel nights in Giza. That keeps your days flexible. If you'd like guided visits, say so when you enquire, and ask what could be added and what it would cost.

It isn't part of the package, but it's close to the pyramids. Egypt's State Information Service places the museum about 2 km (a little over a mile) from the Great Pyramids, on the Giza Plateau outside Cairo, and reported its full opening to the public in early November 2025. The display includes the complete Tutankhamun collection and King Khufu's solar boat, moved from beside the Great Pyramid. Check the museum's current opening days before you plan around it, or ask the team whether it could fit into your three days.

Advertised prices are per person based on four people sharing a room, which the industry calls quad occupancy. On our monthly departures, triple occupancy adds $200 per person and double occupancy adds $400 per person. That is the whole rule. Tell us how many of you are travelling and who needs to be in a room together, and we'll confirm your exact per-person price rather than leaving you to work it out from a table.

Our advertised prices are built on round-trip airfare from five gateways: JFK (New York), IAD (Washington), ORD (Chicago), ATL (Atlanta) and LAX (Los Angeles). If none of those is your home airport, it is not a problem. We can arrange departures from any US city. Additional airfare may apply on some routes, and your specialist will confirm the exact cost before you book, so nothing about the price changes after you have said yes.
