Muslim life in Nashville grew from more than one direction. The Islamic Center of Nashville says a handful of Muslims were praying Jumu'ah at Vanderbilt University in the mid-1970s, and that by 1979 they had organized and bought an old house as a mosque. Getting to Makkah from Nashville
Plan for a connection or two between Nashville and Jeddah. Your first flight might go to a larger US airport and connect from there through a Gulf, Turkish or European hub. Or it might take you to Atlanta or Chicago O'Hare, both among the five priced gateways, with the long-haul leg starting at that airport.
Budget roughly 18 to 25 hours between leaving the ground at BNA and landing in Jeddah. Layovers account for most of that spread. A tight connection looks efficient on screen, but one late departure from Nashville can turn it into a missed flight, so give the first change of planes a generous margin.
Bags deserve a question too. When the trip starts with a domestic leg, ask at check-in whether your luggage is tagged all the way to Jeddah, so you know whether you'll be collecting it somewhere along the way.
Then there's the clock. Makkah is eight or nine hours ahead of Nashville depending on the season, a full hour more than the gap from Atlanta. Expect the first day to feel long, and don't plan much for it.

WeGo Route 18 to the airport
You don't have to leave a car at BNA. WeGo Public Transit's Route 18 runs between the airport and the Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central, downtown, and WeGo says luggage is allowed on board. At the airport, you board at the BNA Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of the Terminal 2 Garage. Express trips take about 20 minutes and local trips 35 to 45, depending on traffic. Check the Route 18 schedule or the Transit app the evening before, especially for an early departure or a late return.
The cell lot is off the airport
Whoever collects you on the way home should know that BNA's free Cell Lot isn't beside the terminal. It's at 1415 Murfreesboro Pike, about 3 miles away, with 240 spaces, security monitoring and screens showing arriving flights. The airport estimates about 30 minutes from landing to leaving the building for passengers with checked bags, and the same for international flights. Your driver can wait there until you call, then head for the Arrivals Level, where pickups happen. It beats looping Terminal Drive.
