Ramadan Umrah 2027: Dates, Costs & How to Prepare

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin in February 2027, subject to the official moon sighting. We are deliberately not publishing exact start and end dates. The Islamic calendar shifts about 10-11 days earlier each year, and the month opens on a sighting rather than a calculation, so the precise days are not fixed until close to the time. What is reliable is the season: Ramadan now falls in the pleasant late-winter weather in Makkah, a real comfort advantage over the summer Ramadans of years past.

Plan around the expected month, then stay flexible until the sighting is confirmed. The start can shift by a day, which matters enormously if you are targeting a specific window such as the last ten nights. Being a day out can mean missing the very nights you traveled for.

If you are reading this in the second half of 2026, note that the Ramadan which fell in February and March 2026 has already passed. Everything below looks forward to the next one.

The Prophet ﷺ said that Umrah performed in Ramadan equals a Hajj in reward. That single hadith is why the Haram fills with millions of pilgrims across the month, and why rooms near the mosque are spoken for so far ahead. The atmosphere (long taraweeh prayers, the recitation echoing through the Haram, the shared iftars, and the pursuit of Laylatul Qadr) is unlike any other time of year.

For many US Muslims it is the spiritual highlight of their lives. The sense of unity among pilgrims from every corner of the world, all fasting and worshipping together, is something people carry with them long after they return home.

The final ten nights carry the greatest reward, including Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Decree), which is better than a thousand months. They are also the single most crowded, most in-demand window at the Haram, with hotels near the mosque committed many months in advance and taraweeh and qiyam drawing enormous crowds.

So if your heart is set on the last ten nights of Ramadan 2027, six months out is none too early to have your name down with an operator. Those dates depend on a moon sighting, which means the practical move now is to register your interest rather than wait for a published date and then scramble against everyone else who waited. Pilgrims on an interest list hear first, and they choose from the full range of rooms.

Be ready for the rest of it too: dense crowds, longer walks, and the need to arrive early to secure a spot for prayer. The reward is immense. So is the demand, and going in with realistic expectations is part of protecting the experience itself.

Ramadan is the most expensive window in the Umrah calendar, and it is worth being plain about why rather than publishing a number we cannot yet stand behind. Bought on your own for that month, round-trip economy airfare from US hubs commonly runs $1,600-$2,500, and hotel rooms near the Haram command their highest rates of the year. Those are quoted, as always, per room per night rather than per person.

Two things are worth knowing for your own budgeting in the meantime. First, where your trip sits within the month is one of the biggest levers on cost: the first half of Ramadan is markedly cheaper than the final stretch, everywhere in the market. Second, room occupancy matters just as much in Ramadan as in any other month. On our published departures a triple adds $200 per person and a double adds $400 over the quad price. Ramadan pricing anywhere follows the same logic, which is one room divided among the people sleeping in it, and it is why groups and families fare so much better in that month than solo travelers do.

You will be fasting while performing tawaf, sa'i, and the daily prayers. Pace yourself accordingly, and push anything energy-intensive into the hours after iftar or before suhoor. Hydrate heavily whenever you are not fasting, and be realistic about the crowds, which make every walk and every wait longer than it would otherwise be.

Many pilgrims perform their Umrah rites in the first days and then give the rest of the trip to worship, i'tikaf, and Quran. A common rhythm is to rest through the hottest part of the fasting day, break the fast at the Haram if you can get there, and pour everything you have left into the night prayers, when the atmosphere is at its most powerful.

Commit early. Four to six months ahead is not too soon for a Ramadan trip, and the two things that are genuinely on you should be settled well before that: a passport with at least six months of validity, and the meningitis ACWY vaccine, which must be given at least 10 days before arrival and is covered by no package anywhere. On a flight-inclusive package the airfare, hotels, transfers, and the e-visa application are handled for you, so your own checklist is a good deal shorter than it used to be. Then pack. Light breathable clothing, a good reusable water bottle, comfortable broken-in sandals for the marble, and any medications you rely on.

Prepare spiritually too. Memorize a few key duas, brush up on the rites, and set your intentions before you leave home, so you arrive ready to worship rather than scrambling to catch up. Ramadan rewards presence, and the more logistics you settle in advance, the more of yourself you have left to give to the worship itself.

If your trip runs to the end of Ramadan, you may witness Eid al-Fitr in Makkah or Madinah. It is a profound experience. It is also a high-demand travel period with packed flights home, so if staying through Eid matters to you, say so in the very first conversation. On a flight-inclusive package the return date is fixed with the itinerary, which means it has to be built in from the start rather than extended later.

Make sure your hotel nights and your return flight both line up with the Eid timing, remembering that the exact date rests on the moon sighting and can move by a day. Celebrating Eid in the holy cities is unforgettable. It just takes extra planning, precisely because everyone else wants to be there too.
