Why perform Umrah in July?
Independence Day falls on a Sunday in 2027, so the federal holiday moves to Monday 5 July and the month opens with a three-day weekend. For a family that can only travel in the summer, July is the obvious choice on the calendar. It is a much harder choice for the body. Makkah's average daytime high in July is 110°F, and the nights only fall to about 86°F. Madinah is almost identical. A July Umrah works when it is planned around that heat from the start: rites late at night, rest through the afternoon, and no long walks at midday. The Haram is not empty in summer. Pilgrims from abroad are fewer than in winter, but people living inside Saudi Arabia make up a large share of the crowd. In the Hijri calendar the month begins at the end of Muharram and turns to Safar on Monday 5 July.

Weather in July
Makkah averages 110°F by day in July and 86°F at night. Madinah runs 109°F and 86°F. Those are averages, and the hottest July day in the 1991-2020 record reached 124°F in Makkah. Drink before you feel thirsty, keep tawaf and sa'i for late at night, and treat the afternoon rest as part of the itinerary.

If July is the month your family can travel, tell us when you register interest and we will keep the days short: the rites late at night, the afternoons in the hotel, and the visits in Madinah early in the morning.
Busy, but less so than winter. On Saudi government figures, the number of Umrah pilgrims arriving from abroad has risen month by month from the first full month after Hajj to December in each of the last four years. In July 2025 it was about 1.37 million, and in December 2025 about 2.14 million. People living in the Kingdom are a big part of the summer crowd: from July to September 2024 they were close to half of all 6.25 million Umrah performers.
It opens in Muharram, the first month of 1449, and becomes Safar on Monday 5 July according to the Umm al-Qura calendar. Muharram is one of the four sacred months, and the Prophet ﷺ said the best fast after Ramadan is the fast of Muharram, as Sahih Muslim records. A trip that starts on 1 July still catches its last four days.
