Why perform Umrah in October?
October is where the year turns in Makkah and Madinah. Makkah's average daytime high falls to 105°F, from 109°F in September. Madinah drops to 99°F, its first month under 100°F since April, and its nights cool to about 74°F. That is not cool, and middays in Makkah are still hot. But it is the first month of the season that does not need planning around the heat from the first day to the last, and the gap between the two cities starts to matter: Madinah is now the place to spend time outdoors. Jumada al-Ula 1449 begins on Friday 1 October by the Umm al-Qura calendar. Columbus Day, the only federal holiday in the month, falls on Monday 11 October.

Weather in October
Makkah averages 105°F by day and 80°F at night in October. Madinah is gentler, 99°F and 74°F, and the gap between the two cities widens from here to the end of the year. Spend the long outdoor visits in Madinah and keep Makkah's afternoons for rest.
October 2027 Umrah: FAQs
Noticeably in Madinah, less so in Makkah. Madinah's average high drops from 108°F to 99°F and its nights from 83°F to 74°F. Makkah only drops from 109°F to 105°F. So the coolest hours of the trip are in Madinah, and it is the better city for anyone who wants to sit in the mosque courtyard outside the prayer times.
Columbus Day is a federal holiday on Monday 11 October 2027, the only one that month. If your employer observes it, leaving on the Friday before saves a day of leave.
Busier than summer, quieter than winter. Saudi government figures counted about 1.69 million Umrah pilgrims from abroad in October 2025, up from 1.51 million in September and below the 2.14 million of December. That steady rise from the end of Hajj to December has happened in each of the last four years.
